Who we are
The Domain Dojo is an independent company. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the State of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Elections Commission, or CISA.
Our service
For a flat $495 we prepare and file your town's wi.gov domain request with the State of Wisconsin, connect your website, and set up email as described on your town's page. The wi.gov domain itself is free from the state; the $495 is for our service.
Payment
Payment is due before we start any work. When your town board chair signs the request, we email an invoice to the chair and the clerk. You can pay by card online or mail a check. We file with the state once a card payment goes through, or once a check has cleared.
What the state decides
The State of Wisconsin decides whether to grant a domain name. We file your claim with the state promptly, but we can't guarantee the state will grant a particular name.
Shared town names
Where several towns share a name, the name goes to the first town whose chair has signed and whose payment has been received. Signing alone doesn't hold the name. If another town pays first, you choose: we request your town's name with the county added (for example, townofunionburnett.wi.gov) at no extra cost, or we refund you in full. We never sell priority.
Refunds
We refund the full fee if you cancel before we file your request with the state, or if the state declines to grant your town any wi.gov name. If the state grants a different name than the one requested, we set that name up instead of refunding. Once we've filed with the state, the fee isn't refundable for any other reason. Refunds go back the way you paid (to your card, or by check) within 10 business days.
Not included
Monthly Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 licenses (paid by your town directly to the provider), mailboxes beyond five, and ongoing support, which are available separately. If you don't have a website, your new domain needs a page to show: we host a simple placeholder page for $99 a year, invoiced separately, or you can have a full website built.
Websites, care plans and other services
These terms cover everything other than the $495 wi.gov service above. Prices are on our website or in the quote we send you.
Invoices and payment
Each service has its own invoice. Payment is due before we start, by card online or by check (work starts once a check has cleared). Care plans and the placeholder page are billed ahead for each year (or each month, for a monthly care plan).
Website build
A website build is 5 to 8 pages on your town's domain, built to work on phones and to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standard. We move over your existing content, or build from what you send us. You get two rounds of changes on the first draft; changes after that are billed at $75 an hour, quoted first. Most sites go live 2 to 4 weeks after we have your content.
Refunds: full refund if you cancel before we send you the first draft. After that the fee isn't refundable; we finish and launch the site.
A website needs our care plan to stay online (hosting, security and the clerk portal for posting your own agendas, minutes and notices).
Care plan
The care plan covers hosting, HTTPS, backups, security updates, monitoring, DNS upkeep for your domain, the clerk portal, small text and photo changes, and support by email or phone. It renews automatically each year (or month) until you cancel. We email a renewal invoice 30 days before each yearly renewal.
Cancel anytime: tell us by email. On a yearly plan we refund the full months you haven't used; a monthly plan runs to the end of the month you've paid for. When it ends we send you a copy of your site's content and documents, and keep the site online for 30 more days so you can move it.
Placeholder page
$99 a year for a simple page on your town's domain with your town's name and contact details. It renews each year until you cancel or replace it with a full website. No refund once the page is live.
Accessibility check and fixes
Our accessibility check is free. It's an automated test of your website against WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard the federal ADA rule for state and local government websites uses. Automated tests find many problems but not all of them, so a clean result doesn't mean a site fully meets the standard.
Accessibility fixes are quoted after we review your site by hand. We fix the pages and documents listed in the quote. If we can't get the access we need to your current site (for example, it's on another company's platform), we refund in full before starting. We don't give legal advice, and we can't guarantee that any site meets every legal requirement; content added later can bring new problems, which our care plan's yearly check helps catch.
Email protection, quick fixes and cleanup
Email protection and quick fixes are one-time changes to your domain's settings or website. If we can't complete one (for example, we can't get access to your domain's settings), we refund that item in full. Hacked-site cleanup removes the harmful content we find and hardens the site; no one can promise a site will never be attacked again.
Who owns what
Your town owns its domain, its content (text, photos, documents) and its data. We don't sell or share your data. If you leave, we hand over your content and help you move your domain.
Our responsibility
We work carefully and fix our mistakes at no charge. We aren't responsible for outages or problems caused by your other providers (such as Microsoft, Google, your domain registrar or the State of Wisconsin). Our total responsibility for any service is limited to what you paid us for it in the last 12 months.
